Meet Sam

Hello! I am the founder and creative director of FUEL therapy. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in eating disorders in Rochester, New York. My background is in movement, cognition, and performance; in addition to a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy (University of Rochester School of Medicine), I hold a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience (University of Rochester) and a Master of Fine Arts in Dance Performance (SUNY Brockport).

My therapeutic work is rooted in both a biopsychosocial and social-ecological model of health and wellness. What does this mean? Well, it means that I believe that mental, physical, and social wellness are inextricably linked. I believe that it is impossible to separate an individual from the system within which they engage. I believe we as humans are inherently capable of change, and that collaborative avenues and community building inherently foster a sense of self-empowerment and commitment to individual growth.

I have specialized training in eating disorders, though my interests span fields of sport & performance psychology, women's health, medical family therapy, and LGBTQ+ populations. My previous education and research includes work within neuroscience, anatomy & kinesiology, biochemistry, dance science, yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and somatic techniques. I value genuine connection with clients and hope to always work from a patient-centered, collaborative care lens.
